Seems like Seagate abandoned this software. SeaTools (ver 1.2.0.2 and ver 1.2.04) wont detect. I installed a new 1TB Seagate Baraccuda 7200.12 Installation seems fine. If DOS tells you that everything is OK, that is it. I need to know whether the Long DST is a sure way of confirming that the HDD may be dying. There is absolutely no point in researching why Windows Short DST failed. His vendor comes in the next day and tells him that there is no problem with the HDD :S and it's just because of temp files ! He deletes them promptly and asks my neighbor to continue using the PC as usual. I also recommend him NOT to keep using the PC anymore until the backup can be taken up on the external HDD. I recommend that he give his HDD for RMA and get himself a external HDD for backing up stuff. Go to the Seagate support site and fill out a warranty request. Even though the short test is pass the HDD fails in the Long DST test. The seagate drive is bad (fails and hangs using Seatools diagnostic). (If DST is not supported, Seatools runs a read test). At the Tools tab, click Get started at the Error-checking section. S Short test Runs a Drive Self-Test (DST) test against Seagate drives. So i fire up Seatools and run Short and Long DST tests. Right-click on the main drive you want to check. I thought that maybe his Seagate harddisk is acting up. I figured that maybe his RAM is corrupt, but then since once when i try to restart, we get a 'system file not found' error. So me being in the 'IT' industry, he calls me to figure out what's wrong. The system does not boot and shows up some 'system file missing' error.Īll this happens in around 20 mins. The mouse pointer shows up but the OS froze.Ĥ. The PC did not show up the mouse pointer when he started.ģ. This happened a few times in a span of 20 minsĢ. Anyway, I tried Startup repair which did nothing, did a memtest which didn't find any errors and then I ran scans in Seagate's Seatools and it comes up with 'Short DST Fail' on his Windows 7 Hard disk. ![]() The PC just restarted while he was working on a Word document. My neighbor's PC has been acting strange since a few days. ![]()
